Two World Premieres at Gladsome Light

Our December concert is just a few weeks away and we're very excited to announce two world premiere pieces from Composer-in-Residence Kevin Siegfried! Gladsome Light will feature motets composed just for us: Dormi, Jesu and Conditor Alme Siderum.

Dormi, Jesu, subtitled The Virgin's Cradle Hymn, is a sweet lullaby that implores the infant savior to sleep as his mother watches over him. Conditor Alme Siderum sets an anonymous 7th Century hymn used at Vespers during Advent. Sustained drones contrast with chanted text, where voices collide and resolve to produce a positively luminous sound. Kevin wrote the piece in part to honor the Hindu festival of lights, Diwali. In it you can clearly hear the influence of Tavener and Pärt, masters of choral chant.

Both pieces show just how well Kevin understands our sound. His music is both challenging and a delight to perform. Tickets are on sale now for Gladsome Light. We hope you'll join us!
