The Capitol Hill Chorale performed "Some Lessons and a Bunch of Carols" — subtitled "Sacred and secular thoughts for the season" — on Friday, December 6, and Sunday, December 8, 2002, at 7:30 pm at St. Joseph’s on Capitol Hill. The concerts opened the Chorale’s 10th anniversary season, ten years after its first performance with 45 voices on December 11, 1993, at Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church under founding Artistic Director Jim Turk.
The program alternated six spoken lessons — drawn from Psalm 150, Shakespeare’s "As You Like It," a poem by Hannah Szenes, the Book of Wisdom, a traditional spiritual text, and Robert Frost’s "The Road Not Taken" — with sets of sacred and secular carols. Frederick Binkholder, Artistic Director, led the 80-voice chorus, accompanied by Dan Miller, with solos taken by chorus members including Bill Kunze, Michael Sandfort, Jessica Chaiken, Jack Summers, James Newton, and Mike Mingo.
