On March 29 and 30, 2008, the Capitol Hill Chorale joined forces with the Capital City Symphony, led by conductor Victoria Gau, for “A Capital Collaboration” — performances at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation on Capitol Hill and at the Atlas Performing Arts Center on H Street NE.
The program opened with the Viola Concerto in B minor, a work long attributed to Handel but now understood to be the composition of Henri Casadesus, featuring soloist Daniel Campos. The orchestra and chorus then performed selected Liebeslieder Walzer of Johannes Brahms, with piano accompaniment by Dr. Jin-sun Cho and Christopher Grodecki and vocal solos from chorale members. After intermission, the ensembles turned to Sergei Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky Cantata, op. 78, sung in Russian and Latin, with mezzo-soprano Andrea Duplechain as soloist.
The Chorale’s artistic director, Frederick Binkholder, and accompanist Dr. Jin-sun Cho, making her debut with the group, joined Maestra Gau in leading the shared program.
